» Canon Point: Post Season 2
» Gender: Male, Male.
» Age: Mid to Late 40s
» Orientation: Asexual.

Hisahide does not have any interactions with female characters throughout the show, and does not show romantic interest in anyone. However, through many of his actions, Hisahide does not seem above using others if it means getting what he wants, and with Japan's view on homosexuality during that era and according to his philosophy, it is safe to say that gender is not a concern of his. (Basically, if he wants someone, he wants someone. The Historical Matsunaga, which this character is based on apparently, wrote a treaty on sex techniques.)

» Personality:

Matsunaga is what one might call a ‘gentlemanly villain’. He lives by the code “If it’s something that will be destroyed, don’t resist your temptation. Seize it and admire it. Finally, destroy it however you like.” Which basically translate to him having a slight different sense in ‘right’ and ‘wrong’. Hisahide is a collector for Antiques, ranging from precious teapots, family heirlooms of other Daimyo and Clans that piqued his interest, and people. A good example will be him ‘negotiating’ for both the Date clan’s 6 Dragon swords and the Takeda clan’s amour in exchange for the lives of Masamune’s men. Because of his nature, he will plan three steps ahead, leaving him always with a trump card, or an escape route should a ‘negotiation’ turn sour, as shown in the end of season 1 when he ‘kills himself’ by blowing himself up.

What sets him apart from other Samurai or Daimyo in that era was his moral and perception of the world. Being a pessimist of human nature, he freely announces his greed and thirst for treasures and precious trinkets, and does not think twice in breaking his word if it meant getting what he wants. Another example of his personality would be him ‘voluntarily’ working with Toyotomi to ‘stall’ the Date army in exchange for yet another priceless katana, the Mikatuchi Munechika. Even though he was in alliance with Toyotomi, he was well aware that Hanbei had no intention of ever giving him the katana, and had no qualms for abandoning the treaty once he got Fuma Kotarou to steal the katana from Toyotomi, even going as far as to point both the Date army and the Motochika army/pirates in the right direction. He thrives off hopeless situations, and enjoys causing emotional trauma via physiological manipulation, as shown with both Masamune (by sending him to the false location with a bit of Katakura’s clothing to ‘stall’ him as Toyotomi dictates) and Sanada (by making him question his own ‘warrior’s honor’ when they met at Oda’s ruins). He is not above fighting dirty, as seen with this use of poisonous incense, mines, and suicide bombers to weaken his opponents, yet another trait that sets him apart from other Samurai or Daimyo in his time.

Hisahide has a dark sense of humor and a sadistic sense of Justice, as he spends his spare time drinking sake out of the skull of the Devil King Oda Nobunaga while enjoying the newest treasure he manage to obtain. While one might argue that the man knows no honor (as Sanada Yukimura had pointed out during their confrontation), Hisahide was quick to state that Oda Nobunaga was viewed as devil king, demon, inhumane in how he treated his subject and his rule; from his death, naïve Samurai and other warriors remember him as a ‘honorable’ man that deserves to have the ruins of Oda to have his peace. However, Hishide views him drinking sake out of Nobunaga’s skull as the most fitting poetic justice, seeing that Nobunaga had done the same to other Daimyo and Clan leaders that had refused to surrender. Twisted as it may seem, Matsunaga has his own set of morals, though it clearly was not shared by most of the others during the Sengoku era.

» Appearance:

Matsunaga has his hair styled in a high ponytail-like fashion, though instead of letting his hair drape down, it’s kept high out of the way in a bun-like shape. He keeps his forehead bare, bangs swept aside out of the way. Though his hair had streaks of white, his oddly shaped mustache was still very much black. Hisahide is well built for a man his age, though one can argue it’s mainly due to him living during Japan’s warring era more so then out of any desire for him to keep fit. He was considered average height, and carries himself with perfect posture. Because of that, while he was not ‘tall’, people generally will think of him, or remember him as relatively tall.

[The device switches on to see Matsunaga standing, a hand behind his back. There was a few seconds of silence before he made his way to the screen. He speaks in a conversational tone, almost as if he was lecturing a friend.]

If there is something you want, take it. Any method is acceptable. It is good to have wants… since, whichever way you put it, men die extremely soon. The circumstances that change constantly… Advantage or disadvantage, what dictates them? Futile, frutile.

[The device jarrs as he picks it up, observing it almost disinterestedly.]

Surprising as it may sound, it is not something I wish to pounder, at the present.

[A grunt of amusement?, and the device was replaced on the table.]

I see no reason being here, though it may seem someone has deemed it fit to take me from my estate. In that case-

[He fixes a stare at the device, smirking. There was no amusement in his eyes.]

Very well; take as you see fit. That is the truth of the world.

» "amatomneslogs" Entry:

Matsunaga woke as he usually does, remaining in place with his eyes closed, his breathing pattern unchanged. His mind was alert and processing the lack of incense that would be the first thing he’d smell each day, and the fabric that he was under felt unfamiliar; the texture was different, but not exactly bad. The fact that he was not sleeping in his usual Yukata solidified his suspicions. With nothing more to gain from staying ‘’asleep”, Hisahide crack open his eyes and peered around the room, making sure to keep the growing confusion he felt away from his actions; if he was in enemy (and he’s made lots, thanks to his nature) territory, it was best to not give them any opening. His actions were slow, and relaxed as he filed the details of the room to be pondered later, though it became clear almost as soon as he woke that he had never seen this room before in his life.

It was odd and slightly disconcerting that he’s currently in a situation that he clearly had not planned on being in; who was the one who orchestrated this? The One Eyed Dragon and the Ogre of the West had both went their respective ways—(not that they would stand a chance getting him, anyway), The War God of Echigo and the Tiger of Kai had only the most amateur of shinobi under their command, nothing like Fuma Kotarou. Fuma. Where /was/ his silent shadow anyway? A quick scan of the room yielding nothing, the man frowned slightly. From his intelligence, only two people even came close in matching him for thinking ahead: Toyotomi’s Hanbei, and the Right Eye of the Dragon, and since the latter was in the custody of the former, it rules him out, as well. Toyotomi, perhaps? Intriguing, intriguing.

He sat up, running a hand through his hair almost disinterestedly as he pondered his potential enemies-- and brushed his fingers through a yet another unfamiliar texture. A… collar? A sign of ownership. So the tables have turned against him this time, huh? The frown only deepened when after much tugging and probing, the fabric refusing to budge; the calm he’d been clinging onto was slipping slightly, so he stopped, deciding to leave it be for the moment. Deal with it later. Focus on what he /can/ control, first. His eye caught sight of his family colors before his armor, and he turned.

None of his collection and herbs (he would have to start all over again) would have made it with him wherever he was at the moment, and while he found that thought somewhat irritating, Hisahide was confident he would get everything back easily. Once he knew more of the premise of his capture, he would begin to work on getting out. Mind made up, he pushed the constricting blankets off him, and reached for his clothing.
